וְאַתָּ֣ה בֶן־אָדָ֔ם הִנָּבֵ֖א אֶל־הָרֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל
“Now you, son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel;
וְאָ֣מַרְתָּ֔ הָרֵי֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל שִׁמְע֖וּ דְּבַר־יְהוָֽה׃
And you shall say:
‘Mountains of Israel,
hear the Word of Yehovah’ ”
36:2
כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה
“Thus Lord Yehovah has said:
יַ֣עַן אָמַ֧ר הָאוֹיֵ֛ב עֲלֵיכֶ֖ם הֶאָ֑ח
Because the enemy has said concerning you, ‘Aha!
וּבָמ֣וֹת עוֹלָ֔ם לְמֽוֹרָשָׁ֖ה הָ֥יְתָה לָּֽנוּ׃
The Everlasting Heights have become our possession!’ ”
36:3
לָכֵן֙ הִנָּבֵ֣א וְאָמַרְתָּ֔
“Therefore prophesy and you shall say:—
כֹּ֥ה אָמַ֖ר אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֑ה
‘Thus Lord Yehovah has said:
יַ֣עַן בְּיַ֡עַן שַׁמּוֹת֩ וְשָׁאֹ֨ף אֶתְכֶ֜ם מִסָּבִ֗יב
Because on account of the horror and trampling of you, from round about,
לִֽהְיוֹתְכֶ֤ם מֽוֹרָשָׁה֙ לִשְׁאֵרִ֣ית הַגּוֹיִ֔ם
In order for you to become a possession for the remnant of the foreign nations,
וַתֵּֽעֲל֛וּ עַל־שְׂפַ֥ת לָשׁ֖וֹן וְדִבַּת־עָֽם׃
And you have been taken up by lip-language and evil report of people:’ ”
36:4
לָכֵן֙ הָרֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל שִׁמְע֖וּ דְּבַר־אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֑ה
“Therefore, Mountains of Israel,
hear the Word of Lord Yehovah:—
כֹּֽה־אָמַ֣ר אֲדֹנָ֣י יְ֠הוִה
Thus has said Lord Yehovah,
לֶהָרִ֨ים וְלַגְּבָע֜וֹת לָאֲפִיקִ֣ים וְלַגֵּאָי֗וֹת
To the mountains and the hills,
to the stream beds and the valleys,
וְלֶחֳרָב֤וֹת הַשֹּֽׁמְמוֹת֙ וְלֶעָרִ֣ים הַנֶּעֱזָב֔וֹת
And to the ruins of the desolations,
and to the cities having been forsaken,
אֲשֶׁ֨ר הָי֤וּ לְבַז֙ וּלְלַ֔עַג
Those which became booty and a mockery,
לִשְׁאֵרִ֥ית הַגּוֹיִ֖ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר מִסָּבִֽיב׃ ס
for the descendants of the foreign nations from round about:”
36:5
לָכֵ֗ן כֹּֽה־אָמַר֮ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִה֒
“Assuredly thus Lord Yehovah has said:
אִם־לֹ֠א בְּאֵ֨שׁ קִנְאָתִ֥י דִבַּ֛רְתִּי
Surely, in the fire of My jealousy have I spoken
עַל־שְׁאֵרִ֥ית הַגּוֹיִ֖ם וְעַל־אֱד֣וֹם כֻּלָּ֑א
Against the remnant of the foreign nations, and against Edom – all of it:
אֲשֶׁ֣ר נָתְנֽוּ־אֶת־אַרְצִ֣י ׀ לָ֠הֶם לְמ֨וֹרָשָׁ֜ה
Who have granted My land for themselves for a possession,
בְּשִׂמְחַ֤ת כָּל־לֵבָב֙ בִּשְׁאָ֣ט נֶ֔פֶשׁ
With whole-hearted jubilation, in malice of soul,
לְמַ֥עַן מִגְרָשָׁ֖הּ לָבַֽז׃
For the purpose of driving Her out for booty!”
36:6
לָכֵ֕ן הִנָּבֵ֖א עַל־אַדְמַ֣ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל
“Therefore, prophesy over the soil of Israel;
וְאָמַרְתָּ֡ לֶהָרִ֣ים וְ֠לַגְּבָעוֹת
And you shall say to the mountains and to the hills,
לָאֲפִיקִ֨ים וְלַגֵּאָי֜וֹת
To the stream beds and to the valleys,
כֹּֽה־אָמַ֣ר ׀ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֗ה
‘Thus Lord Yehovah has said:
הִנְנִ֨י בְקִנְאָתִ֤י וּבַחֲמָתִי֙ דִּבַּ֔רְתִּי
Behold I in My jealousy and in My wrath I have spoken,
יַ֛עַן כְּלִמַּ֥ת גּוֹיִ֖ם נְשָׂאתֶֽם׃
Because ye have carried shameful insult by foreign nations;’ ”
36:7
לָכֵ֗ן כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה
“Therefore, thus Lord Yehovah has said,
אֲנִ֖י נָשָׂ֣אתִי אֶת־יָדִ֑י
‘I, I have raised My hand:
אִם־לֹ֤א הַגּוֹיִם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לָכֶ֣ם מִסָּבִ֔יב
Assuredly the foreign nations,
they who are against you from round about,
הֵ֖מָּה כְּלִמָּתָ֥ם יִשָּֽׂאוּ׃
They shall bear their own shameful insult;’ ”
36:8
וְאַתֶּ֞ם הָרֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ עַנְפְּכֶ֣ם תִּתֵּ֔נוּ
“And you, O Mountains of Israel,
ye shall put forth your branches,
וּפֶרְיְכֶ֥ם תִּשְׂא֖וּ לְעַמִּ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל
And ye shall yield your fruit,
For my nation Israel: —
כִּ֥י קֵרְב֖וּ לָבֽוֹא׃
That are soon to arrive!”
36:9
כִּ֖י הִנְנִ֣י אֲלֵיכֶ֑ם
“For, behold I AM here for you;
וּפָנִ֣יתִי אֲלֵיכֶ֔ם וְנֶעֱבַדְתֶּ֖ם וְנִזְרַעְתֶּֽם׃
And ye shall be tilled,
And ye shall be sown;”
36:10
וְהִרְבֵּיתִ֤י עֲלֵיכֶם֙ אָדָ֔ם
“And I will make man numerous upon you,
כָּל־בֵּ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל כֻּלֹּ֑ה
The whole House of Israel, all of Her;
וְנֹֽשְׁבוּ֙ הֶֽעָרִ֔ים
And the cities, they shall be inhabited,
וְהֶחֳרָב֖וֹת תִּבָּנֶֽינָה׃
And the ruins, they shall be re-built;”
36:11
וְהִרְבֵּיתִ֧י עֲלֵיכֶ֛ם אָדָ֥ם וּבְהֵמָ֖ה וְרָב֣וּ וּפָר֑וּ
“And so I will multiply man and beast upon you,
and they shall become numerous and be fruitful;
וְהוֹשַׁבְתִּ֨י אֶתְכֶ֜ם כְּקַדְמֽוֹתֵיכֶ֗ם
And I will make you inhabited,
the like of your former times;
וְהֵטִֽבֹתִי֙ מֵרִאשֹׁ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם
Moreover I will do better than your beginnings;
וִֽידַעְתֶּ֖ם כִּֽי־אֲנִ֥י יְהוָֽה׃
And so ye shall know that I AM Yehovah;”
36:12
וְהוֹלַכְתִּי֩ עֲלֵיכֶ֨ם אָדָ֜ם
“And I will cause man to walk upon you,
אֶת־עַמִּ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙
My Nation Israel,
וִֽירֵשׁ֔וּךָ
And they shall take possession of you,
וְהָיִ֥יתָ לָהֶ֖ם לְנַחֲלָ֑ה
And you shall be to them for an inheritance;
וְלֹא־תוֹסִ֥ף ע֖וֹד לְשַׁכְּלָֽם׃ ס
And you shall no more again be bereaving them;”
36:13
כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה
Thus Lord Yehovah has said:
יַ֚עַן אֹמְרִ֣ים לָכֶ֔ם
“Because they are saying to you,
אֹכֶ֥לֶת אָדָ֖םאתיאָ֑תְּ
‘Devouring mankind, you are! —
וּמְשַׁכֶּ֥לֶת גויךגּוֹיַ֖יִךְ הָיִֽית׃
And causing the bereavement of your own nation, you are!’ ”
36:14
לָכֵ֗ן אָדָם֙ לֹא־תֹ֣אכְלִי ע֔וֹד
“Therefore, you shall no longer devour mankind,
וגויךוְגוֹיַ֖יִךְ לֹ֣א תכשלי־תְשַׁכְּלִי־ע֑וֹד
And your nation shall no longer cause bereavement!”—
נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִֽה׃
The Declaration of Lord Yehovah;
36:15
וְלֹא־אַשְׁמִ֨יעַ אֵלַ֤יִךְ עוֹד֙ כְּלִמַּ֣ת הַגּוֹיִ֔ם
“And I will no longer let you hear
the insult of the foreign nations against you,
וְחֶרְפַּ֥ת עַמִּ֖ים לֹ֣א תִשְׂאִי־ע֑וֹד
And the reviling’s of the peoples you shall no longer carry;
וגויךוְגוֹיַ֙יִךְ֙ לֹא־תַכְשִׁ֣לִי ע֔וֹד
And you shall no longer make your own nation stumble,” —
נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִֽה׃ ס
The Declaration of Lord Yehovah.
36:16
וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־יְהוָ֖ה אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃
Now the Word of Yehovah
was toward me saying;
36:17
בֶּן־אָדָ֗ם בֵּ֤ית יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ יֹשְׁבִ֣ים עַל־אַדְמָתָ֔ם
“Son of man, the House of Israel
was dwelling upon their own soil,
וַיְטַמְּא֣וּ אוֹתָ֔הּ בְּדַרְכָּ֖ם וּבַעֲלִֽילוֹתָ֑ם
And they defiled it, through the course of their deeds;
כְּטֻמְאַת֙ הַנִּדָּ֔ה הָיְתָ֥ה דַרְכָּ֖ם לְפָנָֽי׃
The like of the uncleanness of menstruation,
their course was in front of My Face;”
36:18
וָאֶשְׁפֹּ֤ךְ חֲמָתִי֙ עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם
“And I poured out My wrath upon them,
עַל־הַדָּ֖ם אֲשֶׁר־שָׁפְכ֣וּ עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ
For the blood, that which they shed upon the land;
וּבְגִלּוּלֵיהֶ֖ם טִמְּאֽוּהָ׃
And by their idol images they desecrated it;”
36:19
וָאָפִ֤יץ אֹתָם֙ בַּגּוֹיִ֔ם וַיִּזָּר֖וּ בָּאֲרָצ֑וֹת
“And I dispersed them among the nations,
and scattered them in the countries;
כְּדַרְכָּ֥ם וְכַעֲלִילוֹתָ֖ם שְׁפַטְתִּֽים׃
According to their way and their deeds I judged them;”
36:20
וַיָּב֗וֹא אֶל־הַגּוֹיִם֙ אֲשֶׁר־בָּ֣אוּ שָׁ֔ם
“And they went unto the nations
when they had arrived there,
וַֽיְחַלְּל֖וּ אֶת־שֵׁ֣ם קָדְשִׁ֑י
And they profaned My Holy Name;
בֶּאֱמֹ֤ר לָהֶם֙ עַם־יְהוָ֣ה אֵ֔לֶּה וּמֵאַרְצ֖וֹ יָצָֽאוּ׃
In saying to them:
‘ These are the People of Yehovah
and they had departed from His Land;’ ”
36:21
וָאֶחְמֹ֖ל עַל־שֵׁ֣ם קָדְשִׁ֑י
“But I had consideration for My Holy Name;
אֲשֶׁ֤ר חִלְּל֙וּהוּ֙ בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל
Which the house of Israel had profaned,
בַּגּוֹיִ֖ם אֲשֶׁר־בָּ֥אוּ שָֽׁמָּה׃ ס
Among the nations,
when they had gone there;”
36:22
לָכֵ֞ן אֱמֹ֣ר לְבֵֽית־יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל
“Therefore, say to the House of Israel:
כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה
‘Thus sayeth Lord Yehovah,
לֹ֧א לְמַעַנְכֶ֛ם אֲנִ֥י עֹשֶׂ֖ה בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל
Not for your sake I AM taking action,
O House of Israel;
כִּ֤י אִם־לְשֵׁם־קָדְשִׁי֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר חִלַּלְתֶּ֔ם בַּגּוֹיִ֖ם
But for My Holy Name,
that you have profaned among the nations,
אֲשֶׁר־בָּ֥אתֶם שָֽׁם׃
When you went there;’ ”
36:23
וְקִדַּשְׁתִּ֞י אֶת־שְׁמִ֣י הַגָּד֗וֹל
“And I will hallow My Great Name,
הַֽמְחֻלָּל֙ בַּגּוֹיִ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר חִלַּלְתֶּ֖ם בְּתוֹכָ֑ם
Having been profaned among the nations,
which you have profaned in their midst;
וְיָדְע֨וּ הַגּוֹיִ֜ם כִּי־אֲנִ֣י יְהוָ֗ה
Then the nations shall know
that I AM Yehovah;
נְאֻם֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה בְּהִקָּדְשִׁ֥י בָכֶ֖ם לְעֵינֵיהֶֽם׃
Declared by Lord Yehovah,
When I will be showing Myself Hallowed in you,
before their eyes;”
36:24
וְלָקַחְתִּ֤י אֶתְכֶם֙ מִן־הַגּוֹיִ֔ם
“And I will take you out of the nations,
וְקִבַּצְתִּ֥י אֶתְכֶ֖ם מִכָּל־הָאֲרָצ֑וֹת
And I will gather you together from all the countries;
וְהֵבֵאתִ֥י אֶתְכֶ֖ם אֶל־אַדְמַתְכֶֽם׃
And I shall bring you to your own land;”
36:25
וְזָרַקְתִּ֧י עֲלֵיכֶ֛ם מַ֥יִם טְהוֹרִ֖ים וּטְהַרְתֶּ֑ם
“And I will sprinkle upon you pure water
and you will become clean;
מִכֹּ֧ל טֻמְאוֹתֵיכֶ֛ם וּמִכָּל־גִּלּ֥וּלֵיכֶ֖ם
From all your filthiness
and all your dungy idol images
אֲטַהֵ֥ר אֶתְכֶֽם׃
I shall cleanse you;”

וּזְכַרְתֶּם֙ אֶת־דַּרְכֵיכֶ֣ם הָרָעִ֔ים
“But you will remember your evil ways,
וּמַעַלְלֵיכֶ֖ם אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹֽא־טוֹבִ֑ים
And your deeds that were not good;
וּנְקֹֽטֹתֶם֙ בִּפְנֵיכֶ֔ם עַ֚ל עֲוֺנֹ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם
And you will be disgusted with yourselves
on account of your iniquities,
וְעַ֖ל תּוֹעֲבֽוֹתֵיכֶֽם׃

36:32
לֹ֧א לְמַעַנְכֶ֣ם אֲנִֽי־עֹשֶׂ֗ה
“Not for your sakes I AM working,
נְאֻם֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה יִוָּדַ֖ע לָכֶ֑ם
Let the Declaration of Lord Yehovah be known to you:
בּ֧וֹשׁוּ וְהִכָּלְמ֛וּ מִדַּרְכֵיכֶ֖ם
Feel shame and be humiliated on account of your ways,
בֵּ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ ס
O House of Israel;”
36:33
כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה
Thus has said Lord Yehovah:
בְּיוֹם֙ טַהֲרִ֣י אֶתְכֶ֔ם מִכֹּ֖ל עֲוֺנֽוֹתֵיכֶ֑ם
“In the day when I cleanse you,
from all of your iniquities,
וְהֽוֹשַׁבְתִּי֙ אֶת־הֶ֣עָרִ֔ים וְנִבְנ֖וּ הֶחֳרָבֽוֹת׃
Then I will cause the cities to be inhabited,
and so the ruins will have been rebuilt;”
36:34
וְהָאָ֥רֶץ הַנְּשַׁמָּ֖ה תֵּֽעָבֵ֑ד
“And the land having been made desolate
shall be tilled:
תַּ֚חַת אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָיְתָ֣ה שְׁמָמָ֔ה
Instead of that which was a desolation
לְעֵינֵ֖י כָּל־עוֹבֵֽר׃
To the sight of all passing through;”
36:35
וְאָמְר֗וּ
“Then they will say,
הָאָ֤רֶץ הַלֵּ֙זוּ֙ הַנְּשַׁמָּ֔ה הָיְתָ֖ה כְּגַן־עֵ֑דֶן
“ ‘This same land, which was desolated,
has become like a Garden of Eden;
וְהֶעָרִ֧ים הֶחֳרֵב֛וֹת וְהַֽנְשַׁמּ֥וֹת וְהַנֶּהֱרָס֖וֹת
And so the ruined cities,
and they having been wasted and torn down,
בְּצוּר֥וֹת יָשָֽׁבוּ׃
Are now inhabited, are now inaccessible!’ ”
36:36
וְיָדְע֣וּ הַגּוֹיִ֗ם
“And the nations will know,
אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִֽשָּׁאֲרוּ֮ סְבִיבוֹתֵיכֶם֒
They who remain round about you,
כִּ֣י ׀ אֲנִ֣י יְהוָ֗ה בָּנִ֙יתִי֙ הַנֶּ֣הֱרָס֔וֹת נָטַ֖עְתִּי הַנְּשַׁמָּ֑ה
That I, Yehovah, I have rebuilt what was torn down,
I have replanted what was desolated;
אֲנִ֥י יְהוָ֖ה דִּבַּ֥רְתִּי וְעָשִֽׂיתִי׃ ס
I Am Yehovah, I have spoken and done it;”
36:37
כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה
Thus has said Lord Yehovah:
ע֗וֹד זֹ֛את אִדָּרֵ֥שׁ לְבֵֽית־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת לָהֶ֑ם
“Besides this,
I shall let myself be inquired of by the House of Israel,
to act with effect for them;
אַרְבֶּ֥ה אֹתָ֛ם כַּצֹּ֖אן אָדָֽם׃
I shall make them numerous,
as the flocks of mankind;”
